Progress, but no photos

I've been trying to get good photos of my sock progress, but it has been dark and gloomy and rainy for three days now. According to the weatherman, no relief in sight untilt the weekend. I'm not really complaining, I didn't have to survive a hurricane, thank goodness! Anyhoo, I have finished the first Conwy sock and have about 4 inches on the leg of the second. I have also made some progresss on the Lativian sock. Still on the first sock, but almost to the heel flap. It takes a lot of knittin' time to get anywhere with those size 0 needles. Ok, pictures to follow when the sun shines. Til then, take care.

Socktober Fest!

It's Socktober Fest! I planned to knit four pairs of socks this month. As it is already the 17th, I might have overreached myself, but we'll see. One pair is actually finished! Here they are: they are knit from Steinbach Wolle Aktiv Effekt in shade 03 (if I'm reading the ball band right. Farbe means shade doesn't it?). This is a first time knit with this sock yarn and I am in love with it. First, just look at that colorway. Have you ever seen anything prettier? Just right for Autumn. And the wool is softer than most sock yarn, even with the 25% polyamide fiber. It has just a bit of a halo. Feels great on the feet.

Next, I am working on Conwy from Nancy Bush's Knitting on the Road. I've joined the knitalong group KOTR-SOCK-KAL on Yahoo! It's been great fun seeing what yarn everyone is using and discussing the pattern. I'm still on sock number one though.

I'm using Lorna's Laces Shepard Sock yarn in Forest. The needles are size US 2. Sock project three is Latvian Socks from Nancy Bush's Folk Socks. There's a knitalong for this book too, which of course I joined. I just cast on these this weekend, so not much progress. The picot hem gave me a bit of trouble. I finally just did a provisional cast on, and then I had live stitches to pick up instead of picking up the stitches from the cast on edge.

Once beyond the picot hem, it's an easy pattern. But, these socks are knit on size 0 needles! It's going to take a lot of stitches to finish these babies. The yarn is Knit Picks Essentials in dusk.

One last sock project is the Fiber Nooks and Crannies Opal Sock of the Month for October. The patterns in this sock club are designed by Leslie Verts and use Opal yarn. Here is this month's sock of the month.

The pattern is marked "easy level" so I hope I can do it. Some of the patterns from this club are far beyond my skill. I've saved them though, so maybe someday I'll be able to do them. This one should be doable, even by me.

Well, I'm off to work. Tootles.

Just Sad

Very little keeps me from knitting. I can always find a minute here or there. But this week has been tough. I find myself just staring into space. My cousin Kathy's 19 year old son committed sucide on Tuesday. Kathy is like another sister to me, and the pain she is suffering is terrible. Her son had Bi-Poler disorder, and he just couldn't beat it. It was too big a fight for him. Anyway, I'm leaving for Denver tomorrow for the memorial and burial on Sunday. Maybe next week I'll be able to do something more than just pick up the needles and yarn and hold them.
