Knit for a princess

This is a quick post before I leave for Maryland this afternoon. Princess Katy is having her 5th birthday party this week end. The party theme is, of course, a princess one. Although I have several birthday gifts for her, I am knitting one as well. It's the denim pinafore from Erika Knight's book Simple Knits for Little Cherubs. This is a picture of the back. The front looks just like the back. I have done a three needle bind off on the shoulders and knit the picot edge for the neckline and one arm hole since taking this picture. Still to be done is the other picot edge for the remaining arm hole. Then the whole thing plus some yarn for seaming goes into the washer. Finally, I'll have to seam it. Since I'm leaving town, it won't get done this week end, but should be finished in time for her actual birthday on October 5.

So, I'll try to post a picture of the finshed pinafore next week. Bye for now!

Friday Harbor

The Friday Harbor socks are done! I'm really pleased with how they turned out and can't wait to wear them. I knit them in Mountain Colors Weavers Wool Quarters in alpine, using US 2 double points.

Here is a close look at the heel. And the cuff, which I had to do twice on the first sock, but looks good so it was worth it.

And finally, the toe. I'm Kitchener-challenged, so even though I like a more rounded toe, this worked well for me.

Bring on the next KOTR knit-along!

One is done!

I finished the first Friday Harbor sock on Saturday and I'm finished with the leg on the second sock. Also had a stash cleanout this past week end. I discovered that I have an embarrassing amount of sock yarn. I also found a few things I had forgotten I had. I have ten skeins of Rowan Chunky Tweed in a dark blue that might be enough for a cardigan. I'd also forgotten I had purchased some sock kits. I can't start anything else until I finish the Friday Harbor socks. I'm also knitting the little denim pinafore from Erika Knight's book, Simple Knits for Little Cherubs. This has to be done by October 5 for Katy's birthday. It's stockinette stitch, except for the picot hem borders, so not very exciting to look at. I'll take a picture when I have finished the back.

Vacation

I actually have three finished projects from my vacation. Here are a pair of nordic mittens, knit on US 3 double points with Debby Bliss Merino DK. I modified a pattern of Beth Brown-Reisle's that was in Interweave Knits Winter 2004 (I think). Now I'm set for a cold winter. And I finished a pair of socks, knit on US 1 double points in Opal Rainforest yarn in Parrot. Opal keeps coming up with fantastic yarns. I'd like to knit a pair of socks from Tiger in the Rainforest colorway, and the colors in the Opal Petticoat yarn are singing a siren song as well. I also finished the Marco Polo Sweater and it is washed and blocked. No picture. I'm hoping to get a shot of my mom wearing it.

Ten days of vacation make it hard to go back to work. Ugh. I can hardly see my desk. But I did have a great time. My daughter and my two grandchildren came for a visit and every minute with them was a delight. (Yes, I am a doting Grandma). And there are always sweets at Grammy's house. Here is Jack with an all day sucker and Katy with her favorite ice cream.

And here is one of my current projects, the Friday Harbor socks from Nancy Bush's book, Knitting on the Road. I'm using US 2 double points and Mountain Colors Weavers Wool Quarters in alpine. The blues are really lovely. Well, back to work. Tootles.
